A Taste of Two Stories...
Sunday, December 6th, 2009 at 5pm
Before the more than 45 Limmuds that now exist around the globe, there was just one...
.
Limmud
UK. Limmudniks from all over Toronto came together for an intimate evening with Clive Lawton, co-founder of the worldwide
Limmud
movement, as he speaks from over 30 years of
Limmud
experience.
The evening featured:
Clive Lawton, "Who Needs Jews?"
Jews spend a huge amount of energy, time and money -- not to mention a considerable amount of guilt inducement! -- keeping going. But for what? What use are we and would the world be any the worse off if we weren't here any more?
Rosalin Krieger, "Yiddishkeit in Black and White: Three Jewish Pioneers of the American Sitcom"
This talk will chronicle the multiple and far-reaching contributions of Gertrude Berg (
The Goldbergs
), Nat Hiken (
Car 54, Where Are You?
and
Sgt. Bilko
) and Sheldon Leonard (
The Dick Van Dyke Show
) to the early development of American television comedy.
